Institute of Criminalistics of the Police of the Czech Republic
Institute of Criminalistics is an expert police unit with the nationwide competence specializing in expert and CSI activities. It was founded on 12 December 1958. That day its name (Institute of Criminalistics) was first mentioned in Order of the Minister of Interior No. 166. It means, the Institute is one of the oldest police units and it boasts a rich history.
Currently the institute is incorporated in the Register of Experts, Expert Offices and Expert Institutions of the Ministry of Justice of the Czech Republic for the fields of handwriting analyses and forensic sciences.
It educates and trains high-class specialists, publishes specialist materials, creates methodologies for specialized Czech police units and is a forensic science and research workplace.

The Institute of Criminalistics was the first czech police workplace to start international cooperation. Since 30 March 1998 it has been a member of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI). The Czech forensic experts rank among the most well-respected and recognized specialists in the world.

1 November 2007 is an important date in the history of the Institute. It is the date when the Institute obtained the Certificate of Accreditation following the successful fulfilment of accreditation conditions of the standard in the area of expert activities and it became an internationally recognized lab.
